PEEK Is Not Expensive. Wrong PEEK Decisions Are.
PEEK is one of the most capable engineering plastics available. And yes, it comes at a price, still significantly lower than PI for comparable performance envelopes.
That price forces the right question:
Does the application truly require PEEK’s performance, and if so, which type of PEEK?
- Continuous high temperature over long periods?
- Creep resistance under permanent load?
- Chemical resistance combined with mechanical stress?
- Dimensional stability where failure is not an option?
If the answer is yes, PEEK is often the most economical solution over the full lifecycle.
But PEEK only works if it is selected precisely:
• Correct grade: unfilled base grade, CF30, GF30, or wear-modified (HPV)
• Correct understanding of the dominant failure mechanism
Using PEEK where it is not needed is expensive. Using the wrong PEEK where it is needed is even worse.
Material selection is not about avoiding cost. It is about avoiding failure.
